This May the Big Apple has a juicy Spanish taste! The brands of Furniture from Spain have crossed the pond again to exhibit at the most prestigious North America’s platform for global design, the ICFF NYC, that this year celebrates its 29the edition at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, May 21-24, 2017. Spanish brands have also enjoyed success in some of the most coveted awards (NYCxDESIGN and the #MetropolisLikes Award).
As usual every year, the four-day ICFF NYC puts on display the newest frontier of the global contemporary design industry. It is estimated to lure more than 35,000 professionals of the interior design industry, including interior designers, architects, retailers, representatives, distributors, facility managers, developers, manufacturers, store designers, and visual merchandisers.
Over a fairground surface of approximately 15,300 net sqm, more than 750 exhibitors from all the corners of the globe showcase contemporary furniture, seating, carpet and flooring, lighting, outdoor furniture, innovative materials, wall covering, accessories, textiles, and kitchen and bath furniture for residential and commercial interiors. This remarkable throng of exhibitors creates an unparalleled opportunity to view a broad yet highly focused selection of the world’s finest, most innovative, and original avant-garde home and contract products side-by-side, under one roof.
New products from Spain’s leading contemporary furniture companies are always eagerly anticipated by trade and public alike, and this year’s designs won many plaudits for their originality, functionality and personality. As a matter of fact, the GARDEN LAYERS collection by Patricia Urquiola for GAN has won the prestigious NYCxDESIGN Award in the Outdoor category, while CAPDELL has been recognized with two honorees for the MIRÓ chair (Guest seating) and the INSULA seating system (Office furniture) while iSimar has received the prize for the LAGARTO outdoor modular sofa, in the Outdoor Lounge category.

The TWINS loveseat by MUT Design for EXPORMIM is one of the winners of the award program #MetropolisLikes, a selection of the best products from NYCxDESIGN according to the editors of Metropolis Magazine.

The Catalonia-based CALMA, a young, successful manufacturer of outdoor furniture, unveils the new version of the NUA armchair, the NUA SOIRÉE, and the brand new LLUM outdoor lighting collection.

Their proposals for outdoor lounges are completed by the CIRCUS side tables, the SENYORA PEPA armchair, the OM sun-shade (Red Dot 2015) and the ultra-comfortable DORM sofa upholstered with a refined, technological Silvertex® fabric.
Meanwhile, KETTAL, one of Spain’s most renowned designer furniture company, presents the new items of the BITTA collection, the new extendable tables which are available with teak, marble or aluminium tops.

Among the new designs, professional can have a first-hand look at the new creations by Doshi Levien for the brand: the dining chairs, a series of tables and the low footstools of the CALA collection as well as the brand new BELA ropes in 18 different colours that can be mixed and matched and combined with the different fabrics and materials of the Kettal’ chart.

In the iSimar booth people can breathe the real essence of the Mediterranean and be fascinated by its lively colours.

The firm, a key player in the contract seating market, puts on display the sinuous, attractive LAGARTO modular outdoor sofa, a creation by the Italian designer ILMIODESIGN who drew inspiration from a lizard tail. Other proposals for the outdoor spaces are the new OLIVO armchair and the BOLONIA lounge chair.

Designed by Patrick Norguet, the INSULA modular seating system – in a vibrant red version- is the real protagonist in the CAPDELL’s booth. Designed for contract use, it can be configured in different ways to create different spaces.

Spanish brands at the event of the NYCxDESIGN celebration
GAN has taken part in the NYC xDESIGN by inviting design professionals to discover the new GARDEN LAYERS collection in its flagship showroom in SoHo. Born from its collaboration with Patricia Urquiola, this launch is the first venture into the outdoors for the firm.

The Spanish designer has created an exquisite collection of rugs, mattresses, roll pillows and cushions all of them inspired by the Orient and conceived to be enjoyed out in the open. During the ICFF, the blue version, one of the three colour options of the collections besides terracotta and green, has been on display at the GAN’s showroom.

EXPORMIM has exhibited for the first time at the WantedDesign, a platform dedicated to promoting design and fostering the international creative community at large throughout the year.
Its two marquee events take place during NYCxDESIGN, New York’s celebration of global design, in both Manhattan (May 20 - 23) and Brooklyn (May 17 - 23).
VONDOM has also been present by organising an event in its own showroom on the 3rd Avenue. Eugeni Quitllet will discuss the inspiration and the creative process behind his designs for the Spanish brand, which include the Ibiza, Brooklyn (2016 BOY Award Finalist), Bum Bum, Africa, and Bloom collections...
