Outdoor furniture manufacturer EXPORMIM is still on a high after winning two prestigious awards, the Red Dot and the #MetropolisLikes, for the TWINS LOW armchair and the TWINS loveseat, both creations by MUT Design Studio for the Spanish brands. A best-seller collection and a winner, could they ask more?
RED DOT AWARD: Product Design 2017
As he already did in 2014 with the Nautica swing chair, Alberto Sánchez from MUT Design Studio has delivered a remarkable design worthy of one of the most important international design awards.
Originally composed of two different armchairs, the TWINS seats feature curved backs that support an upholstered cushion and are supported by a high-resistance aluminium tube frame. Suitable for use indoors and outdoors, the chairs and the latest additions to the collection, a loveseat and a pouf, are covered with an elastic 3D polyester mesh specially developed by the Danish company Gabriel® for the Spanish brand.
The TWINS LOW armchair has received the distinction “Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017” excelling among thousands of products submitted from all over the world. More than 5,500 entries from 54 countries were submitted this year to the competition, a fact that highlights the importance of the achievement.
The jury, formed by a panel of 40 independent experts from different countries, has stated that “the Twins collection is characterized by the classic appearance of a comfortable chair, designed with high-quality materials that are optimal for the outdoors, but which show the best of themselves in interior spaces”.
The Red Dot Gala will take place in the German city of Essen on 3 July 2017 followed by the Designers’ Night party where the winners will celebrate their prize together and will receive their certificates. For five weeks, the special exhibition “Design on Stage” will display the awarded products as part of the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design in the Red Dot Design Museum of Essen.
The Red Dot Award is organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and it was convened for the first time in 1955, being one of the senior design competitions in the world. Nowadays the Red Dot has become an undisputed seal of quality, much coveted by designers and manufacturers worldwide.
The #MetropolisLikes Award 2017
The editors of the US METROPOLIS magazine selected their favourite products from the city-wide NYCxDESIGN event, running from May 3 to 24, as part of a biannual award program known as #MetropolisLikes.
The TWINS loveseat, the newest member of the Twins collection by MUT Design received the prize in the category furniture. Just like the two other original armchairs of the collection, the loveseat looks casual yet elegant, extremely contemporary and exquisitely finished. Because of its compactness and small scale, it is perfect for reduced spaces or cozy environments.
