The HUG chair from MOBBOLI receives the GOOD DESIGN Award 2018

Based on two fundamental conceptual axes, the union of elements and the stylistic pragmatism, the HUG chair, one of the latest designs by Ximo Roca for MOBBOLI, has been awarded the prestigious GOOD DESIGN Award 2018 in the category Furniture.

Founded in Chicago in 1950 by Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., Eero Saarinen, and Charles and Ray Eames and awarded by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, the GOOD DESIGN® Awards Program honours the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs produced around the world.

Every year, designers and manufactures in about 50 countries are distinguished for their special contribution in producing hallmarks of contemporary design. One of the key factors for the awards selection is based on whether a product can enrich society and people's lives through its design. Something that the HUG chair does to perfection thanks to its essential, yet highly functional and versatile design.

Created by Spanish industrial designer Ximo Roca, the HUG chair has an ergonomically shaped, one-piece seat shell composed of nine layers of birch obtained from sustainable forest. The chair comes upholstered in flexible polyurethane foam (30 kg/m3) and covered in any of the upholsteries of the MOBBOLI’s catalogue or in fabrics provided by the customer.

HUG is available in a choice of different types of fixed and swivel metal bases, with or without armrests. The option with flat wooden armrests – in stratified oak or couture wood -, give the piece warmth and versatility.

The painted metal structures are offered in a wide range of colours that allows the maximum customization of the HUG models.

In addition to its excellent design, one of the other highlights of the HUG collection is its lightness and the stackability of some of the models, such as the rod frame chairs, that make them suitable for any contract space.
