Spain, the hot house of design
Spain is currently gaining reputation and international recognition for its work in contemporary architecture and furniture design. As a matter of fact, in the last decade, in order to keep up with the demand of ever-evolving markets, the Spanish furniture industry has strived to invest on R&D, introducing cutting-edge technology in its manufacturing processes.
The pressure was on to create original new designs that differentiate Spanish companies from their competitors and mirror the strong inimitable identity of the country.
In this task, Spanish furniture industry has been helped by an exceptional reservoir of designers: Odos Design, Yonoh, Jaime Hayón, Patricia Urquiola, Francesc Rifé, Emiliana, Héctor Serrano, Ramón Esteve, La Granja and Joan Lao, among others. They have renovated Spanish design, injecting in it dynamism, inventive and fun.
Some of them – Patricia Urquiola, Héctor Serrano and Jaime Hayón – have turned into big names of the international design scene, breaking new grounds for the new generations of young designers, the so called La Nueva Ola, featured on a recent show in London, curated by the prestigious Wallpaper magazine.
Design furniture produced by Spanish leader brands – such as Andreu World, Gandia Blasco, Vondom, Viccarbe, Sancal… – have been awarded with international prestigious prizes, such as the renowned RED DOT 2012 that this year has been given to the Spanish ANDREU WORLD for its SAIL chair, signed by Piergiorgio & Michele Cazzaniga.
All these firms have worked in major projects all around the globe, decorating luxury hotels, the trendiest restaurants, the headquarters of important corporations and main airport lounge. For a complete report, have looks at the our digital magazine: Spanish projects N_02
