OBI sofa by Rafa García for SANCAL

Over the latest years, living rooms have turned into the heart of the house, that treasured spaces specifically aimed at relaxing and entertaining. And a lot have been made to improve these functionalities.

Enveloping lines, embroidery details, new textures, refined colours and materials: the seats are designed to create intimate corners as well as spacious lounge spaces. The influence of retro design of ‘60s to 80’s is still widely visible, but finishes has been brought to perfection with the use of cutting-edge technology. In many cases sofas are placed on thin legs that lend them visual lightness and elegance. Armchairs come in different shapes and can be used as an integral part of the composition or as stand-alone elements to give personality to a specific space.

Colours play a great role in creating atmospheres and setting the mood required. Most prevalent colours at the Salone 2016 have been pink, with the quartz hue variation, blue, yellow and red, which have shared the scene with more basic colours like gray in all shades, beige, dark brown and warm white. Grass green and petroleum blue have been also widely used, above all in retro combinations.

Quilted upholsteries have been also in the spotlight bringing us back to the comfortable shapes of the ‘70s. Most have opted for the quilted finish with very thick patterns, while others have preferred softer patterns for a less formal look.
