Salone del Mobile.Milano 2019. Spain takes the centre stage for haute décor, trends and design

Connections, creativity, innovation. Within the space of a week, from the 9th to the 14th of April, more than three hundred thousand people converge in Milan to attend the Salone, the unmissable business platform for furniture and design brands, creatives, designers, professionals of the interior design industry, architects and trend-seekers.

Now in its 58th edition, the Salone del Mobile.Milano is in full swing preparing to be once again the focus of international attention. This 2019 edition promises to be packed with visitors, products and projects – a real flow of creativity, innovation and business that will run through the five trade events held simultaneously: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile and the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, the biennial Euroluce, the Workplace3.0 and the SaloneSatellite. This edition will also see the debut of a new exhibition format dedicated to design products and decorative and technical interior design solutions: S.Project, a versatile space in which the keywords are multisectoral approach, synergy and quality.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and the Workplace3.0 will host more than 1,300 exhibitors over 149,500 m2 divided into 3 style categories:

  • Design – 843 exhibitors – Halls 5-6-7-8-10-12-14-16-18-20: products focused on functionality and innovation, which boast a great sense of style;
  • xLux – 349 exhibitors – Halls 1-3-4: devoted to timeless luxury re-read in a contemporary key
  • Classic – 140 exhibitors – Hall 2: furniture and objects which draw on the values of tradition, craftsmanship and noble materials

With its amazing theatrical-looking stands and a wide offer of furnishing top-notch products the Milan Salone has consolidated its position as a global platform capable of attracting more than 370,000 attendees on average, every year, from 188 different countries.

Since 1996, Spain’s main furniture producers have invested in the Salone as a privileged showcase for promoting new collections, meeting international clients and make new contacts. Their offer has always been one of the most diverse and has surprised visitors and professionals for the distinct indoor and outdoor atmospheres and the high standards of product presentation.

Over the latest years, Spain’s exports of furniture have seen a positive trend positioning an increasing number of Spanish brands as key players of the international interior design industry. In 2018, exports of furniture increased by 4.8% to 2,215 million euros, an encouraging result considering the geopolitical context and the new trade barriers on the horizon. On one side, France consolidates as the main foreign market for Spain’s exports of furniture (+11.8%), followed at a distance by two other traditional markets for Spanish products: Portugal (+7.8%) and Germany (+7.2%). On the other hand, despite Brexit turbulences and Trump’s unpredictable foreign trade policy, the U.S.A. and the UK have gained positions as Spain’s top trading partners and they now rank 4th and 5th respectively, registering significant increases in purchases of furniture from Spain.

Exports to Italy, which ranks 6th, grew by 8.5%, amounting to 88.2 million euros. Sales to Morocco and Mexico, which rank 7th and 9th, increased by 14.1% and 2.4%, respectively.

The presence of Spanish top-notch brands at the Salone is not only due to the promotion of market-ready products, but also to a strategy aimed at strengthening their presence in a larger number of countries and sectors: hospitality, retail, corporate, restaurant, bars etc.

To support Spain’s collective participation, MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA has created its own specific promoting platform and it will also cover the event on its own social networks through the following hashtags:
