Furniture design from Spain convinced the Red Dot jury again. This year, four companies of MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA have been awarded with the Red Dot product design prize, one of the most prestigious acknowledgments of good product design in the design world. Let’s get more information!
The jury has made its decisions - the laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 have been chosen and four of them are the Spanish ACTIU, ANDREU WORLD, CALMA and PUNT MOBLES. ACTIU and ANDREU WORLD are already veterans with so many Red Dot prizes to their names, but for CALMA is the first encouraging Red Dot: Best of Best Award!
Soon after having been awarded the IF Design Award 2015 during an event held in the spectacular BMW Welt in Munich (Germany), the WING chair, designed by Ramos&Bassols for ACTIU, has also received the coveted Red Dot Design Award 2015.
Defined as the natural technological evolution of the traditional chair, WING has been manufactured using innovative technical advances in gas injection and the result is a compact, lightweight and strong piece which avoids possible deformations. Suitable for any environment, both indoor and outdoor, the portable and stackable WING offers also a plus in its padded version.
Elegant and versatile, the REVERSE CONFERENCE collection, a creation of Piergiorgio Cazzaniga for ANDREU WORLD, is a comprehensive and ambitious system of tables and meeting tables that brings high functionality to the office environment and modern workspaces.
Its philosophy is based on combinatory elements that include top in different sizes and finishes and allow up to fourteen different configurations.
The Reverse collection meets the most demanding tests of endurance such as ISO and ANSI BIFMA level 5. Additionally, it is made from recyclable materials following a manufacturing process that and sustainability.
The OM sun shade, a design by young Spanish designer Andreu Carulla for Catalonia-based CALMA, has received the RED DOT BEST OF THE BEST for its top quality and ground-breaking design. Inspired by classic Mediterranean canopies and sun umbrellas, OM gives an innovative twist to a well-established product.
Thanks to an original unfolding mechanism, the umbrella can be adapted to the needs of the moment, acquiring different aesthetic configurations: the tense one, with a more conventional image, and the wavy one, inspired by the typical sun shades from Ibiza. When the canopy is closed, a simple mechanism allows a 360° rotation of the canopy creating a vane effect when the wind blows.
The other Red Dot Award has been given to STOCKHOLM, the refined collection of sideboards, consoles, wall hanging shelves and coffee tables created by Mario Ruiz for PUNT.
Manufactured in several heights and lengths and suitable for home and contract use, STOCKHOLM offers a new kind of sophistication – in the quality and combination of materials, in the precise styling and balanced look.
It features a wood stream-lined structure, handleless fronts and enclosed tops in anodized aluminium, in various luxury finishes.
The Red Dot Award is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, a particularly star-studded jury was engaged to judge the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015. In an evaluation process spanning several days, the team of experts awarded the sought-after seal of quality for good design, the “Red Dot”, to 1,240 products. Only 81 entries were bestowed the honour of the top award, the “Red Dot: Best of the Best”, while 122 won an Honourable Mention for a particularly well-executed aspect of design work.
