DESIGN ESPANA, on exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts of Bordeaux, France
Thanks to its dynamic production, recognized designers, innovative techniques and international presence, Spanish design is not only a tangible reality but also one of the sectors where Spain finds its best international projection. The exhibition, which can be visited until September 16th, aims to reveal Spanish design to the French public through some of Spain’s most outstanding designers and creations in the fields of furniture, industrial and graphic design.
In the 80s, with the Transition, the post-dictatorship period, Spain experienced an effervescent moment in art and culture. This renovated energy led to a boom of design and creativity with companies committing themselves more and more with innovation and state-of-the-art technology.
Nowadays, the Spanish design scene is much alive with creativity and truly original thinking. After Oscar Tusquets and Javier Mariscal, in the previous decades, a new generation of designers has emerged gaining soon a strong national and international reputation: Patricia Urquiola, Jaime Hayón, Marti Guixé or the young Nacho Carbonell, just to name a few, embody this New Wave that has made a strong name for itself exploring new languages and ways to push the boundaries.
They are no longer considered just as a simple emblem of surprising modernity, but rather as the authors of a new international design.
