Different cultures and traditions, among them the Muslims, played a fundamental role in the development of Spain’s traditional woodworking, especially in Southern Spain – the ancient Al-Andalus - where the attractive wood craft works have made the fame of important production sites, such as Granada. Nowadays, there are only a few workshops left that can master these ancient arts, and one of them is ARTESANIA MOLERO, that this year, at the INDEX Dubai 2015, will impress lovers of craftsmanship with its new unique decorative furniture. Founded in 1888, ARTESANIA MOLERO is an artisan family-based company which is currently run by the fourth generation represented by Jesús Molero Sabador. Remaining faithful to the ancient family tradition, the company has specialized in the production of furniture with the ancient handcraft taracea technique: cabinets, tables, sideboards, headboards, mirrors, chairs, screens etc; all of them unique masterpieces suitable for the most exclusive interiors.
Introduced into Spain by the Muslims, the taracea work consists in inlaying wood with bones, ivory or different combinations of woods in order to form borders, geometric patterns or straight lines. In the manufacturing of pieces, ARTESANIA MOLERO still follows the traditional working methods and uses fine wood (ebony, rosewood, sycamore, walnut wood) which are inlaid with other precious materials, bones and mother-of-pearl, mainly. Great skills and passion are required as shown in the following video...
Encrusted inlays and engravings are all handmade by using a buril, a special sharp steel pencil that allows to create original in-house designed patterns as well bespoke works.
At the end of the manufacturing process, pieces are varnished to protect them and give them a special, unique silk touch effect.
Among new launches on display at Index Dubai 2015, ARTESANIA MOLERO presents the ALHAMBRA bargueño (cabinet), inspired by the colours and baseboards of the Nasrid palaces; two new screens, one in ebony with mother-of-pearl inlays and the other in walnut wood with inlaid arabesque motifs; various tables in different sizes and with different decorative patterns.
The company, which has been recognized with several awards, has supplied a large number of its masterpieces to various mansions and palaces all over the world, particularly in the Middle East.
Last year, its long-established work in the field of handmade woodworking has been awarded with the renowned Premio Nacional de Artsanía 2014 (National Handcraft Award) given by the Spanish Ministry of Industry.
